Faculty Council – 1/26/09

January 27, 2009

The Council met and approved a number of new or revised programs and courses. There was continued discussion on two topics: Dean roles and responsibilities for evaluation under reorganization; An assessment statement for form 335. The Council expects final action on these topics at our next meeting.

All are reminded of the discussion period on assessments scheduled for February 2, 1:00-3:30 pm, in each campus video conference room. This is intended as a time to share successes and challenges in implementing assessment in the courses and programs. Adjunct faculty who are new or out of the loop in this topic are encouraged to attend these discussions.

Dr. Baehre is scheduled to share with the Council on Monday, February 23, reflections on her sabbatical in Europe. Council meeting are open and all are welcome to attend. As is normal, the meetings will be held in the campus video conference rooms, 3:15-5:00 pm.

PG&D Committee 1/26/09

January 26, 2009

1. The PG&D Committee is finalizing plans for the Spring Faculty In-Service to be held on Thursday, April 9.
2. 18 adjunct faculty grants have been approved.
3. Virginia Young will be giving a presentation on FERPA on March 19, 2009 from 9-10 a.m. via compressed video.
4. The CITE program is offering a seminar called Adventure Learning on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30-3 at the Lancaster Campus.

Harrisburg Adjunct Faculty Spring In-service

Hello all:

The Harrisburg in-service will be held on Monday, January 12, beginning at 1:00 pm in Blocker 113. We are trying an expanded format in order provide a more personalized and less compressed schedule to welcome new faculty and help them to become more familiar with the campus and services available to support them. The day will begin with a welcoming working lunch, progress through a series of workshops, and then come back together for dinner and additional training. The schedule is provided below:

Objectives include how to log-on to HACC Web and GroupWise. Additionally, participants will get an overview of the Help Desk. Finally, this group will receive an introduction to the Adjunct Website.

Alumni Room – Library and Student Records

This group will meet with

Objectives include learning about FERPA regulations, how to use HACC Web and grading information. Additionally, this group would learn about initial and interim rosters and the importance of timely attendance and enrollment confirmation. Finally, this group will meet one of the many qualified librarians who will demonstrate the electronic reserves and options available for information literacy instruction.

Objectives include a brief overview of academic services and resources as well as the services provided by our Human Resources Department. Additionally, this group will get their parking pass and picture ID.

We encourage all adjunct faculty to meet with deans and department chairs. They will share important information about your programs, syllabi, grading, policies, resources and more.
